Reporter:
- Hello and welcome to today’s programme. I’m Scott Wilson and my guest today is Jim Eden. Hello, Jim. Our listeners are very interested in how astronauts eat and drink in space and they have sent us lot of questions. The first question is: How many meals a day do astronauts have
Jim:
- It’s easy. Just like on Earth, they have tree meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Reporter:
- Do tou eat what you like?
Jim:
- Yes, we choose what to eat, but our food must be balanced.
Reporter:
- What’s on the menu?
Jim:
- Well, there are many types of food an astronaut can choose from: fruit and vegetables such as bananas, oranges, carrots, then nuts, chicken, beef, seafood, candy, brownies…
Reporter:
- Sorry, brownies..Can you explain brownies for our listeners?
Jim:
- Chocolate cakes with nuts, mmm…delicious.
Reporter:
- Oh, you’ve got lots of different things to eat. It is true that astronauts don’t eat bread?
Jim:
- That’s right. Bread takes too much room and it crumbles, so we use tortillas instead.
Reporter:
- Tortillas?
Jim:
- Yeah, Mexican pancakes.
Reporter:
- That’s interesting. And what do you drink?
Jim:
- There are a lot of drinks on the menu too: coffee, milk, tea, orange juice, apple juice, fruit punch and lemonade.
Reporter:
- How do you drink? You can’t use cups, can you?
Jim:
- No, we can’t. All drinks are in bags with straws. When we want to drink, we stick a straw inside the bag.
Reporter:
- How many..
